This is the finished painting of San Raphael. The painting is very large. This is a game they play to win gifts at the top of a pole, which is 3o feet high. The biggest obstacle is that the pole is greased with lard. I liked the tension on the arms and the unity it took to climb the pole .These are gang members and the coolest thing for me was the shaved head and a little piece of braided hair left on the back of his head. Enlarge to see. the painting is 4x8 feet and painted in oil.
I was born in Connecticut and was raised on the east coast of the US. I went to college and obtained a degree in ecology and environmental technology. I did not follow the path of my education, and instead was a commercial fisherman in Alaska for 25 years.
Two years ago my partner and I pulled our roots from the States and made a brave move to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico to join other artists. I had already been seriously painting for about 8 years, but now my life was consumed by it. I love what I am doing and my skills are improving with lessons and time to practice. This is what gives me life. I have had some great teachers: Susan Martin Spar and Carmen Hermenez, and many others. I hope you enjoy the paintings! , Esteban,to contact me to buy paintings or comissions,sidewinder@amtmail.com
